Extreme Sharkfest – Tiger Shark Terror
by Marcus Maurice

What's scarier than sharks during the day? Sharks at night.

Imagine surfing in the ocean on a beautiful day, and soon you see a gray fin pop out of the water in the distance. Your heart races and you get the adrenalin pumping. Soon, you see a huge shark in the water coming directly towards you, and it's only 10 meters away. What can you do to save yourself? While this scenario is scary, imagine if the same thing happened in utter darkness.
Every diver who has taken classes has been warned that sharks often feed at night, so they should stay away from certain areas of the ocean when the sun goes down. This month, National Geographic heads to Tiger Beach to find out if this
myth is true or not in Extreme Sharkfest – Tiger Shark Terror. Professional shark diver Eli Martinez and scientist Matthew Smukall plunge into the nighttime world of sharks to see if things are different from during the day.
The two experts are tasked with a difficult job. They have to put small,
advanced camera systems onto these majestic killing machines. To do this, Martinez and Smukall have to put the sharks into a hypnotic state and hope that they don't get their arms bit off. These small cameras can track the sharks' movements, heart rates, and more. They can also help unlock the mysteries of their eating habits. Be sure to tune in this month for Extreme Sharkfest – Tiger Shark Terror and learn if you should really stay out of the water at night.
