Night Markets |
Ethan: There are so many night markets in Taiwan. Almost every city has one or more! Laura: Yes. I like to visit the stalls selling delicious snacks. Talk about great eating! Ethan: Hanging around the night markets is such an amazing experience! You can taste a variety of Taiwanese snacks and do some shopping for clothes and crafts as well. Laura: Have you tried stinky tofu yet? Ethan: No. The smell is enough to keep me away. How is that stuff made, anyways? Laura: They put the tofu in fermented milk along with some vegetables and meat and leave it for a month or two. Pretty strong, don't you think? Ethan: It's a little too strong for me, especially when they fry it! Laura: Some people love it, some don't! By the way, you must drink pearl milk tea while you are in Taiwan. It's a distinctive drink here. Ethan: I already did! I love it. The tapioca balls in it are very chewy. What an invention! Laura: It was invented in Taichung. Now it's becoming popular around the world. Ethan: And what is the "small sausage in large sausage"? Laura: It's pretty much like an American hot dog. They wrap a grilled pork sausage in a sticky rice sausage, which is larger. That's where it gets the name. Ethan: I see. I'll definitely get fat if I stay in Taiwan for a month or two! Laura: Haha, and don't forget to end a night market tour with a plate of shaved ice! |
